Commissioner General of Essential Services Prabhat Chandrakeerthy stated that the reconstruction of railway lines damaged by the recent disaster is estimated to cost approximately USD 400 million. He noted that restoring all affected railway lines will take considerable time due to the extensive scale of the damage.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner said that around 90 percent of the 236 health institutions impacted by the disaster have now been restored. He added that the Spring Valley and Kandegedara hospitals have been relocated to alternative locations, while the Mahiyanganaya and Chilaw hospitals—among the most severely affected—have resumed normal operations.

However, Chandrakeerthy pointed out that significant medical equipment, including CT scanners, suffered severe damage during the disaster, posing ongoing challenges to the full restoration of healthcare services.
