Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced on his official Facebook page that arrangements are underway to implement the system initially on a trial basis. He noted that until now, there had been no proper mechanism for the public to obtain accurate information about the condition of roads across the country.
Following recent disasters, Sri Lanka’s road network suffered significant damage, highlighting the urgent need for such a data-driven system. In response, the initiative has been designed as a fully public-participation-based platform.
Under this system, members of the public can submit information related to road accidents, closures, and other road conditions through the website road-lk.org. A key feature of the platform is that information can be provided in Sinhala, Tamil, or English, along with photographs.
Once the public submits details, the Road Development Authority will verify the accuracy of the information. Minister Rathnayake emphasized that the system can be gradually developed and improved over time.
After operating as a pilot project for several weeks, authorities plan to formally launch the system as a permanent initiative aimed at strengthening road safety and information accessibility nationwide.
