The Airport Police Narcotics Bureau intercepted a large shipment of foreign-made whiskey at Katunayake Airport in the early hours of 12/13, preventing an illegal import worth Rs. 800,000.
A 28-year-old businessman from Minuwangoda, who had arrived on Emirates flight EK-648 from Dubai at 12:30 a.m., was found carrying 69 bottles of whiskey hidden in his luggage. The authorities took swift action to confiscate the liquor and arrest the suspect.
He has been released on police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court on 12/15, along with the seized whiskey bottles, as investigations continue.
