Death toll from Cyclone Ditwah rises to 640; Over 83,000 remain in relief centers

The death toll caused by Cyclone Ditwah has risen to 640, while 194 people have been reported missing, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

DMC said that 83,361 people are currently being accommodated in 845 safety and relief centres across the country.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) announced that the landslide risk warnings imposed on the districts of Badulla, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala, Kegalle, and Ratnapura have been extended for a further 24 hours.

Authorities have urged residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and strictly follow safety instructions issued by relevant officials.
