According to foreign media reports, the vessel was transporting approximately six million litres of fuel at the time of its seizure. In addition to Sri Lankans, the detained crew reportedly includes Indian and Bangladeshi nationals.
Iranian authorities stated that the tanker was seized yesterday afternoon after it ignored stop orders, attempted to flee, and was found to have deficiencies in its ship documentation.
Iran has seized several vessels on similar charges in recent weeks as part of a crackdown on fuel smuggling activities in the region.
