Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, says that preliminary steps have already been taken to temporarily freeze and eventually vest in the State assets illegally acquired by organized criminals, both this year and last year.
Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (12), the Police Spokesman stated that within the past two years, measures have been initiated to seize 354 gold sovereigns, 77 vehicles, cash amounting to Rs. 3.5 billion, and several properties valued at approximately Rs. 1.06 billion.
He further explained that in 2024 alone, 150 gold sovereigns, 64 vehicles, cash amounting to Rs. 600 million, and properties worth Rs. 6.1 billion were temporarily frozen with the intention of vesting them in the State.
Meanwhile, during the current year, steps have been taken to seize 204 gold sovereigns, 13 vehicles, lands and properties valued at Rs. 6.78 billion, as well as 18 houses identified as illegally acquired assets, the Police Spokesman added.
These actions, he noted, form part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and deprive criminals of the proceeds of illegal activities.
