Kandy has emerged as the worst-affected district, with 1,568 houses completely destroyed and a further 14,111 homes partially damaged. Nuwara Eliya follows, recording 767 houses fully damaged and 3,742 partially affected. In the Puttalam district, 627 houses have been destroyed, while over 20,813 homes have suffered partial damage.
The DMC reported that Colombo has the highest number of affected individuals, with 330,443 people from 86,147 families impacted by floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, the national death toll has climbed to 640, with Kandy accounting for the highest number of fatalities at 234. More than 82,000 people from affected areas are currently seeking shelter in 847 displacement camps across the island.
Authorities continue relief operations as adverse weather conditions persist, while residents in high-risk areas have been urged to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by disaster management officials.
