A dengue control programme has been launched in view of the increased risk of dengue spreading with the prevailing rainy weather conditions.

The programme is being implemented jointly by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health.

Director of the National Dengue Control Programme, Consultant Physician Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated that dengue outbreaks pose the most serious threat following periods of heavy rainfall. He noted that every effort is being made to control the situation and prevent a large-scale dengue epidemic.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society said that the programme is being carried out in full compliance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Health.

The initiative aims to strengthen dengue prevention measures and raise public awareness to minimize the risk of the disease spreading in vulnerable communities.
