Police said that although claims circulated widely on social media alleging that the MP had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, investigations have confirmed that he was not intoxicated.
Following the accident, MP Ranwala was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment under police supervision.
Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
