The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Colombo and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Maldives to enhance cooperation in postgraduate medical education and professional training.
According to the proposal presented by the Prime Minister in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Professional Education, the agreement aims to expand collaboration in postgraduate training for medical officers and dental surgeons.
In addition to training programs, the MoU also provides for assistance from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine to help the Maldives recruit specialist medical officers on both a short-term and long-term basis, under a separate agreement between the two parties.
The initiative is expected to strengthen academic and professional ties between Sri Lanka and the Maldives while contributing to the development of the Maldivian health sector.
