The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs convened an emergency meeting of Heads of Divisions to review ongoing response efforts in the wake of the recent disaster situation.
The meeting was chaired by Minister Saroja Savitri Paulraj and Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana, with participation from Ministry Secretary Tharanganie Wickramasinghe and heads of affiliated institutions.
During the discussion, officials presented updates on welfare initiatives, data-collection operations, and the handling of special cases involving vulnerable women and children. They also identified key challenges affecting the efficiency and expansion of ongoing interventions.
The session focused on streamlining coordination mechanisms, addressing operational obstacles, and exploring strategies to enhance the Ministry’s overall response capacity.
According to the Ministry, field officers have been working tirelessly across districts and divisional secretariats, taking on additional responsibilities related to disaster relief while managing their regular duties. Officials also highlighted the need to monitor the wellbeing of staff members who are themselves affected by the disaster.
