A high-level meeting on post-disaster planning and reconstruction was held on 8 December at the Prime Minister’s Office, with special focus on restoring flood-prone areas affected by recent extreme weather events. The discussion was chaired by the Prime Minister and brought together representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored the need for timely and systematic data collection to support effective daily decision-making in the aftermath of disasters. He stressed that accurate and streamlined information flows are vital for guiding both immediate recovery and long-term reconstruction efforts.
Senior government officials, including Secretary to the Prime Minister Pradeep Saputhanthri and Additional Secretary (Development) Sagarika Bogahawaththa, also participated in the discussions.
