Physicians are urging people undergoing long-term treatment for chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes to continue their medication without interruption, despite the ongoing disaster situation.
Dr. Waruna Gunathilaka, a physiotherapist at the Colombo National Hospital, told Athul Suwa News that those staying in Suraksha camps and residents of surrounding villages must ensure they receive their essential medicines.
He noted that the panic caused by severe flooding — which has also damaged stocks of medication — may result in some patients missing their routine treatment. Dr. Gunathilaka stressed that essential drugs can still be obtained by informing field health staff in the area or by visiting the nearest government hospital.
