President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed authorities to implement dedicated mental health programmes for people living in relief camps following the recent disaster.
During discussions at the District Coordinating Committee meeting in Badulla today (08), the President highlighted the psychological impact of displacement and prolonged uncertainty on affected communities. He said mental health support must receive urgent attention alongside physical reconstruction.
The President also reviewed the status of compensation for damaged homes and instructed officials to accelerate the resettlement process.
He further directed Divisional Secretaries to promptly distribute the Rs. 15,000 allowance for affected schoolchildren.
As 6,711 acres of farmland in Badulla have been damaged, the President ordered swift compensation to farmers and temporary irrigation support to ensure cultivation for the Maha season. He added that the Rs. 25,000 allowance for restoring damaged temples will be provided once Cabinet approval is received.
