Instructions issued to evacuate residents in red-alert landslide areas

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has instructed the respective District Secretaries to evacuate residents living in identified high-risk locations within Divisional Secretariat divisions affected by the Level 3 (Evacuation) Red Alerts issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).

According to the official statement issued by the DMC, the evacuation process is scheduled to take place from 09 December 2025 to 19 December 2025.

These instructions have been issued to the District Secretaries of Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, and Matale.

As per the NBRO alert issued at 4:00 p.m. on 08 December 2025, Level 3 (Evacuation) warnings have been declared in the following areas:

Kandy District

Hatharaliyadda, Yatinuwara, Ududumbara, Pathahewaheta, Medadumbara, Pasbage Korale, Deltota, Poojapitiya, Gangawata Korale, Panvila, Gangawata Korale, Udapalatha, Harispattuwa, Kundasale, Minipe, Doluwa, Thumpane, Akurana, Udunuwara, and Pathadumbara.

Kegalle District

Kegalle, Galigamuwa, Mawanella, Bulathkohupitiya, Aranayake, Yatiyantota, Rambukkana, Warakapola.

Kurunegala District

Mawathagama, Mallawapitiya, Ridigama.

Matale District

Naula, Wilgamuwa, Pallepola, Ambanganga Korale, Laggala-Pallegama, Ukuwela, Rattota, Matale, Yatawatta.

The DMC further stated that the evacuation activities must be carried out in coordination with officials from the NBRO, Divisional Secretariats, District Disaster Management Units, Grama Niladharis, Sri Lanka Police, and other relevant agencies.

District Secretaries have also been instructed to submit detailed reports—giving priority to information such as the number of family members evacuated, home addresses, telephone numbers, and the assigned safe centres—after the evacuation process.
