A retired Additional Analyst of the Government Analyst’s Department, D.H.L.W. Jayamanne, has been arrested on allegations of accepting bribes and engaging in corrupt activities during his tenure as a public official.
According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the officer is accused of accepting a bribe of Rs. 6,415,050 from officials of a private insurance company. The payment was allegedly made in exchange for conducting vehicle inspections, issuing related reports, and unlawfully providing analyst reports that allowed the company to gain undue financial benefits while causing significant losses to the government.
Jayamanne was taken into custody on the afternoon of the 5th by investigation officers attached to the Commission. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded until tomorrow (09) pending further inquiries.
