The official election to appoint a suitable candidate as the new Basnayake Nilame of the historic Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya is scheduled to be held tomorrow (09) at the Monaragala District Secretariat auditorium.
The election will commence at 10:00 a.m. under the patronage of Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs K.M.G. Senarathna.
The term of the former Basnayake Nilame, Dishan Wickramaratne Gunasekara, ended on October 22.
Currently, Thilina Madhusankha, the Basnayake Nilame of the Devinuwara Maha Vishnu Devalaya, is serving as the Acting Basnayake Nilame of the Kataragama Devalaya, and he is also expected to contest in the upcoming election.
The selection of the 13th Basnayake Nilame is set to take place tomorrow (09).
