Disaster death toll rises to 627, thousands still affected

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) reported today (07) that the death toll from the ongoing disaster across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka has risen to 627.

According to the latest update issued at 12.00 noon, 190 people are still missing. The adverse weather has affected 2,179,138 individuals from 611,530 families.

The highest number of fatalities has been recorded in the Kandy district with 232 deaths, followed by Nuwara Eliya (89), Badulla (90), Kurunegala (61), Kegalle (32), Puttalam (35), and Matale (28).

The statement also noted that 89,857 people from 27,663 families are currently residing in shelters.
