The year 2025 has become a remarkable period of progress for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. According to official tourism reports, by the first week of December, tourist arrivals have exceeded 2.1 million, reflecting a significant rise compared to previous years.

The government has placed special emphasis on developing the tourism industry and has launched several new projects aimed at enhancing its growth. As a result, Sri Lanka has seen a steady increase in foreign tourist arrivals since the beginning of the year.

In January, 252,761 tourists visited the country, while 242,712 arrivals were recorded in February. March saw the arrival of 239,908 tourists. Meanwhile, during the months of April, May, June, August, September, and October, tourist arrivals remained close to the 200,000 mark each month.

By December, total tourist arrivals surpassed 2.1 million, with the highest number of visitors coming from India, Germany, Russia, China, Australia, and the United States.

With this positive trend, tourism authorities believe Sri Lanka is well on track to achieving its annual tourism targets and further strengthening the industry’s contribution to the national economy.
