According to Dr. Samiddhi Samarakoon, Deputy Director General of Medical Services and National Coordinator for Disaster Management, these teams are serving communities through 1,041 Suraksha centres established islandwide.
She noted that medical teams, working in collaboration with all supporting agencies, have already screened 98.3% of the residents sheltered at these centres. Necessary medicines have been provided, and individuals requiring further treatment have been referred to relevant hospitals and health facilities.
Dr. Samarakoon further stated that additional medical teams can be deployed to required areas and villages upon request. The Ministry’s Disaster Management and Response Unit can be contacted via its 24-hour hotline 1926 for any urgent needs.
