An Indian drone-technology company has expressed interest in forming a long-term partnership with Sri Lanka to strengthen the country’s disaster preparedness and resilience.
The delegation, which met Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, said their drone-based systems could support Sri Lanka by generating accurate disaster-risk assessments, improving terrain mapping, and assisting authorities with real-time situational analysis during emergencies. They noted that early coordination and pre-disaster planning would be key components of the proposed cooperation.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya said Sri Lanka must prioritise modernising its early-warning and data-collection systems, admitting that gaps in forecasting technology contributed to the severe impact of this year’s extreme weather events. She said collaboration with international experts could help the country adopt advanced tools to better anticipate and respond to natural disasters.
