The Department of Irrigation reports that 74 major and medium-scale reservoirs are currently at spillover level, including 38 of 73 major reservoirs and 36 medium-scale reservoirs.

Eng. H.M.P.S.D. Herath, Director of Water Management, stated that the overall water level in major reservoirs has risen to 79.6% of total capacity.

Rising water levels prompted the opening of the Kala Wewa spill gates in Anuradhapura by 4 feet each yesterday (Dec. 4), releasing 3,800 cubic feet of water per second into the Kala Oya.

In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. yesterday, Rambewa in Anuradhapura recorded the highest rainfall at 76 mm.
