The Middeniya Police have arrested a suspect accused of illegally pulling a power line that led to the death of an eight-year-old student who attempted to rescue a dog trapped in the unauthorized live wire.
The victim, Theekshana Vishwa Anuradha, a resident of No. 164/4, Hellala, Middeniya, was a Grade 04 student at Middeniya Primary School. He died on December 2 after coming into contact with the illegal power line in a field behind his home.
According to police, the child had rushed to the field after hearing the frantic barking of his pet dog. Both the student and the dog were electrocuted, with the child pronounced dead upon admission to the Middeniya Hospital, while the dog died at the scene.
Middeniya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
