Akuressa, along the Nilwala River, received nearly 125 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, the highest in the country, according to Engineer L. S. Suriyabandara, Director of Hydrology and Disaster Management at the Irrigation Department. Most other areas experienced normal rainfall, and river water levels have not shown any significant increase.

Engineer Suriyabandara confirmed that the tank system remains stable, with most tanks spilling at normal levels, and there is currently no danger of excessive flooding. However, he cautioned that forecasts predict increased rainfall in the coming days.

The public has been urged to stay calm and follow only official announcements, avoiding misinformation and rumors. Updates will be provided based on data from river measuring stations as the situation develops.
