The ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund has received close to Rs. 700 million to date, largely contributed by Sri Lankans living abroad, according to Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
He stated that nearly Rs. 635 million has been collected through more than 30,470 transactions made to the account operated under the Bank of Ceylon.
A further Rs. 61 million has been received through foreign-currency deposit accounts at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Contributions have come from Sri Lankans living in 33 countries.
The Treasury Operations Department confirmed that the total inflow has reached nearly Rs. 700 million as of December 2. Dr. Suriyapperuma added that more than 19,000 overseas workers have contributed to the fund.
