Sri Lanka’s death toll from ‘Ditva’ cyclone rises to 479

Although the impact of the ‘Ditva’ cyclone has now fully moved away from Sri Lanka, the disaster it triggered continues to reveal a rising human toll.

According to a statement issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the number of missing persons due to floods and landslides has reached 350.

The highest number of deaths 118 has been reported from the Kandy District.

This is followed by Nuwara Eliya, which has recorded 89 deaths.

Meanwhile, Badulla has reported 83 fatalities, and Kurunegala has recorded 56 deaths.

The Colombo District has also reported 5 deaths linked to the disaster.

Authorities continue search and recovery operations as the country assesses the full scale of the destruction left behind by the cyclone.
