The Government of Sri Lanka has introduced a streamlined procedure to expedite the cargo clearance of essential goods donated by overseas contributors for communities affected by the recent floods. Under this new system, all import taxes and levies on such humanitarian aid will be fully exempted.

The initiative was introduced following numerous requests and inquiries from foreign organisations, international donors, and Sri Lankans living abroad who are seeking to support relief and recovery efforts. Authorities say the simplified mechanism will ensure that urgently needed items reach affected areas without delay.

According to the government, the new procedure allows for the swift clearance and distribution of donated goods upon arrival, eliminating bureaucratic hurdles that previously slowed down the delivery process.

Guidelines for submitting donations can be accessed through the Sri Lanka Customs website, while detailed information on the types of essential goods and materials eligible for donation is available via the official government donation portal:

Guidelines: www.customs.gov.lk

Eligible donation categories: www.donate.gov.lk

Officials emphasize that this measure underscores the country’s commitment to facilitating global assistance and ensuring timely support for flood-stricken families.
