826 Volunteers from Matara Arrive in Badulla to Support Cyclone Ditwah Relief and Reconstruction Efforts
A dedicated team of 826 volunteers from Matara arrived in Badulla yesterday (December 1) to assist in rebuilding communities severely affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
According to the Badulla District Secretariat, the group demonstrated strong solidarity with affected residents by bringing not only their manpower but also essential machinery and tools required for large-scale reconstruction. The equipment brought included:
Backhoe loaders
Excavators
Chainsaws
Water bowsers
Cleaning equipment
The volunteer team consists of members from the Red Star Organization, various volunteer groups, social activists, and media personnel who have joined forces to restore damaged infrastructure and support families impacted by the disaster.
Authorities say this large-scale assistance will significantly accelerate ongoing recovery efforts in the district, providing much-needed relief to thousands affected by the cyclone.
