The Irrigation Department has warned that the Kelani River’s south bank flood control dam has reached its maximum water level, marking a critical and dangerous situation.

Authorities strongly urge the public living in the surrounding low-lying and riverbank areas to follow all official safety advisories without delay.

According to the Department, the current water pressures pose a heightened risk, and residents are advised to remain vigilant, be prepared for rapid evacuation if instructed, and avoid entering flooded zones.

The Irrigation Department further emphasised: “This situation is decisive and dangerous. We kindly request the public to strictly adhere to our announcements.”

Emergency teams remain on standby as continuous monitoring of the water levels is underway.
