Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Athula Karunanayake, has issued an advisory highlighting the increased risk of localised flooding across several parts of the country.
According to the Department of Irrigation, the ground in many regions is now fully saturated due to continuous rainfall, raising the likelihood of sudden flooding in vulnerable areas. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant, especially when returning to their homes.
Meanwhile, coastal warnings are still in effect from Trincomalee to Kankesanturai and Puttalam. The public—especially those engaged in fishing and other maritime activities—have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into these sea areas today, given the hazardous conditions.
Director General Karunanayake emphasised that safety should remain the top priority and urged the fishing community to strictly adhere to the warnings issued.
