The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Alert for strong winds as Cyclone Ditwah continues to move northwards, currently positioned around 170 km North-northeast of Jaffna.

According to the advisory, very strong winds between 50–60 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 70 kmph, are expected over the sea areas stretching from Trincomalee to Puttalam, making these waters very rough and dangerous.

Authorities have strongly advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into these areas until further notice due to the hazardous conditions.

Additionally, fairly strong winds are forecast along the coastal stretch from Puttalam to Colombo and Trincomalee to Hambantota, with the possibility of sudden increases in wind speed.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow further updates issued by the Department of Meteorology and disaster management authorities.
