A Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), which was deployed for disaster relief operations, has crashed into the Gin River, police confirmed today.

The helicopter was carrying out relief activities in the Wennappuwa–Lunuwila area when the incident occurred. Authorities have launched an immediate rescue operation to assist the crew and assess the situation.
