Disaster toll rises to 193, Over 228 still missing

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) reported that the number of deaths caused by the ongoing adverse weather conditions across the country has risen to 193, with 228 people still missing.

According to the DMC’s latest update at 11:30 am today (30), 968,304 people from 266,114 families have been affected by the floods, landslides, and related disasters.

The highest number of fatalities has been recorded in Badulla District (71 deaths), followed by Kandy (52 deaths), Matale (20 deaths), and Kurunegala (15 deaths).

The DMC also highlighted the scale of the missing persons situation: 105 people remain missing in Kandy, 53 in Badulla, 27 in Kurunegala, and 24 in Kegalle, with rescue operations hampered by landslides and severe weather conditions in affected areas.
