Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), under the direction of its President Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee, has launched a series of humanitarian initiatives to support the government’s ongoing relief operations amid the severe weather conditions affecting the country.
The R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) in Colombo was opened last Friday to shelter residents whose homes were inundated by floodwaters. SLC has instructed RPICS administrative staff to work in coordination with government authorities to ensure the smooth functioning of the facility as a temporary relief centre.
To further strengthen the national relief effort, SLC began distributing daily meal packets on Saturday. These meals are handed over to official government distribution centres to support flood-affected families across multiple regions.
SLC President Shammi Silva and Treasurer Sujeeva Godaliyadda met with the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage, along with other key officials overseeing relief operations, to reaffirm the organisation’s commitment to providing every possible form of assistance.
The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team observed a one-minute silence on Saturday in memory of those who lost their lives during the extreme weather events. The tribute was held prior to the Tri-Series T20I final in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, with the Pakistan team also joining the observance.
Sri Lanka Cricket stated that it will continue to extend its support as the country works to overcome the ongoing crisis.
