Colombo District authorities have issued an urgent evacuation advisory as the Ambatale bund has begun to overflow, posing a significant flood risk to surrounding areas.

According to the Colombo District Secretary, residents who are leaving their homes due to the rising water levels are advised to move to the Malabe Boys’ School and Pittugala Yasodara School, which have been designated as temporary safe shelters.

People living along both sides of the roads in low-lying areas from Kaduwela to Malabe, Athurugiriya to Malabe, and Malabe to Battaramulla are strongly urged to evacuate immediately. Officials warn that the overflow of the Ambatale bund could lead to rapid flooding in these regions.

Disaster response teams are on standby, and the public is requested to follow official instructions and prioritize safety.
