Disaster death toll rises to 123

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reports that the death toll from the prevailing adverse weather has risen to 123, while 130 individuals remain missing.

The update was issued in the DMC’s latest situation report released at 9:00 a.m. today (29).

According to the report, 373,428 people from 102,877 families across 25 districts have been affected by the ongoing disaster situation.

Additionally, 43,925 people from 13,690 families are currently sheltered at 488 safe locations.

District-wise fatalities include:

Kandy: 51 deaths

Badulla: 35 deaths

Matale: 8 deaths

The DMC further states that 67 people are reported missing in Kandy, while 27 individuals are missing in Badulla.

Authorities continue rescue and relief operations as the severe weather persists across many parts of the country.
