A major landslide has been reported in the Rambadagama area of Kotmale, with residents stating that the collapse occurred late on the night of the 27th and continued into the early hours of yesterday (28).

According to locals, the central section of Rambadagama village—located between the Nuwara Eliya and Pudalu Oya roads—has completely collapsed. Several deaths have been reported, but residents say they have been unable to recover the bodies or transport the injured due to the dangerously unstable terrain.

The situation has been made worse by the complete loss of electricity and mobile phone connectivity, leaving the area isolated. Around 50 people are believed to be trapped, and relatives of those affected are urgently appealing for government intervention.

Access to the village has been entirely cut off, and residents report that no disaster relief teams have been able to reach the site so far due to the severity of the landslide.

Locals are calling for immediate rescue assistance as fears grow for those still stranded.
