The Irrigation Department has warned that severe flooding is likely in the low-lying areas of the Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys, including parts of Gampaha city, within the next six hours.

The department has urged residents, shop owners, and businesses in the affected zones to take extreme precautions to protect lives and property as water levels continue to rise.

Officials said that many areas within the Attanagalu Oya basin are currently experiencing heavy rainfall. The warning is based on an analysis of ongoing rainfall and real-time river water gauge readings maintained by the Irrigation Department.
