The Department of Irrigation has issued a red alert for the Mahaweli River basin as continuous heavy rainfall is being reported in the upper catchment areas.
According to the department, there is a significant risk of major flooding in low-lying areas along the river. Residents living in these vulnerable zones are strongly advised to evacuate immediately to ensure their safety.
