Sri Lanka has taken a progressive step toward inclusive education by guaranteeing university admission for students with disabilities who qualify through the Advanced Level examination.

Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne announced that the Parliamentary Advisory Subcommittee on Higher Education has granted its approval for the new policy.

Under this decision, any student with a disability who meets the required A/L qualifications this year will be eligible to enroll in any faculty of their choice at universities across the country.

Authorities say the move aims to promote equal opportunities in higher education and ensure that all students—regardless of physical or learning challenges—have access to academic pathways that match their interests and aspirations.

The Ministry of Education noted that relevant support systems and facilities will also be strengthened within universities to ensure a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for these students.
