Following the adverse weather, 628 houses have suffered partial damage, and four fatalities have been reported so far, according to the DMC.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation has stated that heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused water levels in several rivers across the country to rise above the alert level.
L.S. Suriya Bandara, Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division, highlighted that water levels in the Kelani, Kalu, and Attanagalu rivers are continuing to rise.
In the past 12 hours, up to 6:00 a.m. today, the highest rainfall was recorded in the Ratnapura district, measuring 84.40 mm.
The Department of Meteorology has warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm could occur today in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western, Northern, and Southern provinces.
Additionally, the Rajanganaya, Angamuwa, Kalawawa, Deduru Oya, and Polgolla reservoirs are still being discharged. Authorities have urged residents living in downstream areas of these reservoirs to remain vigilant.
