The Court of Appeal today (23) ordered the extension of the undertaking given by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the custody of Kehelbaddara Padme until December 2.

The order was issued when a writ petition filed by Padme’s mother—seeking an order to ensure her son’s safety while in CID custody—was taken up before a bench comprising Justices Rohantha Abeysuriya and Priyantha Fernando, the Presiding Judge of the Appeal Division.

President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, appearing for the petitioner, requested the court to extend the previous undertaking given by the respondents that Padme would not be taken to any place outside the CID premises where he is currently being held.

Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Perera, appearing for the respondents, consented to the request. Accordingly, the bench ordered that the undertaking remain in effect until the next hearing on December 2.
