Under this program, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to implement the project with an allocation of Rs. 630.2 million within the Medium-Term Budget Framework 2025–2027.
Initially, Rs. 500 million has been earmarked in the 2025 Budget for the project, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Ragama Blood and Rehabilitation Hospital and the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
The initiative includes two key components: upgrading services for disabled persons at the Ragama Blood and Rehabilitation Hospital and improving facilities for the local manufacture of assistive devices under the Accident and Orthopedic Service of the National Hospital.
Officials said the project aims to reduce reliance on imported medical assistive equipment, promote self-sufficiency, and ensure timely access to mobility aids and rehabilitation devices for those in need.
This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Sri Lanka’s healthcare support system for persons with disabilities, while fostering innovation and sustainability in local medical device production.
