Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon (Note: original says Priyantha Weerasuriya—please confirm accuracy) has instructed all senior police officers and station heads to grant reasonable relief to motorists in provinces outside the Western Province when enforcing laws related to vehicle revenue licenses, due to a malfunction in the Lanka Government Cloud (LCG) system.

The LCG system, which facilitates numerous government services, has been out of operation for nearly a week following a technical failure that occurred on October 10.

Engineers of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) have reportedly been working for the past seven days to restore the system, but their efforts have not yet been successful.

As a result of the system breakdown, several key public services have been disrupted, including the issuance of birth and death certificates by the Registrar General’s Department and Divisional Secretariats, vehicle revenue licenses in eight provinces (excluding the Western Province), pension-related services, and the issuance of police clearance reports.

Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy, Mr. Varuna Sri Dhanapala, stated that eight major state institutions have been affected by the outage.

Authorities are continuing efforts to restore the LCG system as soon as possible to resume normal public service operations.
