Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Dinindu Saman Hennayake met with officials of the National Youth Corps today (16) to review the progress of its ongoing programs.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage also participated in the event, during which appointment letters were presented to 26 newly recruited instructors of the Youth Corps.

Addressing the newly appointed instructors and officers, Deputy Minister Hennayake emphasized that knowledge in information technology and English plays a vital role in the personal development of Sri Lankan youth and in preparing them to be globally competitive.

He noted that the National Youth Corps bears the responsibility of providing quality education to young people who will soon shoulder the nation’s responsibilities. Highlighting the institution’s core mission, he said that its primary role is to guide youth, foster discipline, and develop their personalities.

“The responsibility of producing modern youth who will lead the country for the next four decades within the next four years lies with both the National Youth Services Council and the National Youth Corps,” the Deputy Minister said, adding that meaningful reform begins with self-change before seeking to transform the youth.

National Youth Corps Chairman Tharindu Muhandiram, Director Gamini Wickramapala, Board Member Anjana Sampath Amarasinghe, and other officials also attended the event.
