Deputy Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Viraj Udayanga, stated that approximately 100 new cases are being reported each week, highlighting the persistent risk the mosquito-borne disease poses to residents.
Speaking at the District Coordination Committee meeting held at the Colombo District Secretariat on October 14, Dr. Udayanga revealed that around 80 new cases were detected during the final week of September alone.
The Gothatuwa Medical Officer’s area has recorded the highest number of infections, totaling 856 cases as of October 11.
In response to the ongoing situation, the Colombo Regional Health Services Office and the Western Province Health Services Office have collaboratively introduced a new data collection system aimed at improving dengue surveillance and response efficiency across the district.
Health officials continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain proper sanitation, and seek medical attention promptly if dengue symptoms appear.
