Trade unions representing employees of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) have lodged a formal complaint with the Commissioner General of Labour, alleging that the state broadcaster has failed to remit Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions for a period spanning 13 months.

According to the unions, the EPF payments have not been made for the following months:

2023 – August, September, October, November

2024 – January, February, March, May

2025 – March, May, June, July, August

Copies of the complaint have also been forwarded to the Presidential Secretary, the Minister of Health and Mass Media, the Minister of Labour, the Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media, and the Director General of SLRC.

Reports indicate that the current SLRC Chairman, Gihan de Silva, who assumed duties in December 2024, has failed to ensure EPF payments for five of the eleven months of his tenure so far.

The unions allege that despite the non-remittance, employee contributions continue to be deducted from salaries each month, raising serious concerns over financial mismanagement and violation of labour regulations.

The SLRC currently employs approximately 600 staff members, and the unions have urged authorities to intervene immediately to secure their retirement funds and hold those responsible accountable.
