She was appointed to the post following the Cabinet reshuffle announced yesterday (October 10) by President in line with the government’s preparations for the 2026 Budget.
Upon assuming duties, Deputy Minister Dr. Ariyarathna stated that the government is committed to promoting responsible and progressive media practices under the policy framework of “A Prosperous Country, a Beautiful Life.” She emphasized that the government’s goal is to develop new policies that ensure both responsible journalism and the protection of media freedom.
She further highlighted that the Ministry of Mass Media plays a central role in the government’s operations, serving as a key institution that reflects the political direction and image of the state both locally and internationally.
The event was attended by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Parliamentarian Oshani Umanga, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Mass Media Ministry Secretary Deepa Liyanage, Director General of Government Information Harsha Bandara, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Prof. Udita Gayashan.
