The new facility is expected to employ nearly 900 healthcare professionals and expand its capacity to 150 residential beds. Plans also include the establishment of advanced emergency care units, modern operating theatres and specialist centres. The project was launched under the theme “A new meaning for the future of healthcare.”
Minister Jayatissa hailed the development as a significant step in strengthening the country’s healthcare system, noting that the project reflects the confidence of the private sector in investing in Sri Lanka. He highlighted that the hospital will introduce several cutting-edge medical technologies, including robotic surgery — a first for the country — alongside specialist services in cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology and orthopaedics.
The Minister further emphasized that the hospital will be designed in line with international standards, ensuring patient comfort, safety and well-being. He added that the initiative aligns with the government’s national health strategy, which focuses on improving access to quality healthcare, enhancing tertiary care capacity, addressing non-communicable diseases, and fostering public-private partnerships.
Expressing gratitude to the Hemas Group, medical professionals, and partner institutions, Dr. Jayatissa said the hospital would serve not merely as a medical facility but as “a living institution of continuous learning, innovation, service and hope.”
