The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Health, joined the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), United States Air Force (USAF), hospital staff, and community representatives to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the refurbished Akaragama Divisional Hospital

The LKR 40.5 million (approximately USD $135,000) refurbishment of Akaragama Hospital was planned and overseen by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) and United States Air Force (USAF) engineers working side by side. Their cooperation reflects the trust at the core of U.S.–Sri Lanka military engagement and strengthens bonds across the Indo-Pacific.

The project was made possible through joint contributions from both nations, demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting the local community. Serving more than 45,000 patients each year—many from lower socio-economic backgrounds—Akaragama Hospital is a vital resource, now better equipped to deliver care through nine specialized clinics.
